An accurate activated carbon quote starts with a clear purchase request. If a buyer only asks for “activated carbon price,” the supplier has to guess the grade, packaging, destination, and shipment terms. That usually leads to a rough number instead of a usable quotation. This guide shows what to send so the supplier can recommend the right grade and quote faster.
Start With the Application
Activated carbon selection changes by application. Water treatment, VOC removal, food decolorization, gold recovery, solvent recovery, and distribution orders do not use the same buying logic.
A good request begins with one sentence:
We need activated carbon for [application], and the main target is [treatment goal].
Examples:
- Water treatment: odor, color, chlorine, organic removal, polishing
- VOC treatment: solvent vapor, workshop exhaust, adsorption box refill
- Food or beverage: decolorization, odor removal, process liquid polishing
- Gold recovery: CIP, CIL, CIC, or heap leach circuit
- Distribution: regular stock for local resale
If you are not sure which product type fits, say that clearly. A supplier can usually narrow the choice faster from the application than from a long list of uncertain specifications.

Provide the Product Form If You Know It
If you already know the product form, include it in the first message. If not, describe the equipment and let the supplier recommend a starting point.
| If Your Process Uses… | Usually Discuss… |
|---|---|
| Fixed-bed water filter | Granular activated carbon |
| Batch dosing or emergency treatment | Powdered activated carbon |
| Gas adsorption box or VOC unit | Pellet or granular activated carbon |
| Decolorization process | Wood-based or powdered activated carbon |
| Gold recovery circuit | High-hardness coconut shell activated carbon |
| Low ash or pH-sensitive liquid | Washed or acid-washed activated carbon |

Include Only the Specifications That Matter
Some buyers send every parameter they can find online. Others send none. Both slow the quote down.
Send the specifications you already know are required, such as iodine number, CTC value, particle size, ash, moisture, hardness, pH, or bulk density. If you do not know them, send the application, target, and equipment details instead. A useful supplier should be able to suggest a reasonable starting grade.
For parameter context, read 10 Activated Carbon Specifications Every Industrial Buyer Should Check. But do not turn that checklist into a rigid demand list unless your project really requires it.
Quantity, Packaging, and Destination Change the Quote
Activated carbon pricing changes with quantity and packing. A trial order, monthly supply order, and full-container order may have different unit prices.
Send these details early:
- Trial quantity or first order quantity
- Expected monthly or annual usage, if available
- Preferred packaging: 25 kg bags, jumbo bags, pallets, or custom packing
- Destination country, city, or port
- Requested trade term, such as FOB, CFR, CIF, or DAP
- Expected purchase timeline
Packaging is especially easy to overlook. Pallets may make handling easier but can reduce container loading. Jumbo bags can reduce labor but require lifting equipment. For more detail, see Activated Carbon Packaging Options: 25kg Bags, Jumbo Bags, and Pallets.
A Simple Quote Request Template
You can send a request like this:
We need activated carbon for VOC exhaust treatment in a coating workshop. Please recommend a suitable pellet or granular grade. Trial order: 1 ton; later estimated demand: 10 tons/month. Packaging: 25 kg bags on pallets. Destination: Jebel Ali, UAE. Please quote FOB and CIF options if available. We also need a specification sheet and estimated lead time.
That message gives enough information for a useful reply. It also lets the supplier ask focused follow-up questions instead of starting from zero.
Make the Quote Easy to Compare
When you receive multiple offers, compare them by product form, key specifications, packaging, loading quantity, delivery term, lead time, and supplier responsiveness. A lower price may not be comparable if the product form, packing, or destination term is different.
For Tanjin Carbon quotations, send the product type if known, application, quantity, packaging preference, destination, and delivery term. If you are unsure about the grade, describe the process and treatment goal first; we can recommend a starting option before quoting.
